The St. Francis Boys Basketball League has been in existence for many years. Much of its continued success can be directly linked to the parish support and parental participation that it receives in the form of community service. The league is made up of volunteers, who dedicate countless hours to the program to help ensure its continued success.
While the obvious goal of the league is to teach basketball fundamentals to the players, the more important lesson learned is good sportsmanship. With these teaching, our children learn the role of family and friendships within their parish and community. The life lessons these children learn carry them well into their adult lives. Many of the parents of the players themselves recall their own participation in the St. Francis basketball program, and look back on those days with fond memories.
The league offers boys in grades K-8 the opportunity to participate in the program at different levels. There is a Saturday league for all grades, a school travel league for grades 7 & 8, and a travel parish league for grades 5 & 6 and 7 & 8.
In the 2004/2005 season, the Boys 5th & 6th grade parish CYO team won the championship for the Merrimack Valley League. This was the first CYO championship in the history of St. Francis basketball for that grade level. Congratulations boys!
The league looks forward to many more opportunities during this season, and those in the future, to showcase what participation in parish life is all about. Please support our parish programs. You can make a difference.
