St. Francis Girls Basketball consists of a Sunday "in-house" league and two "travel" teams. The in-house league runs from October - March and currently consists of six teams in the Junior Division (grades 3-5), and six teams in the Senior Division (grades 6-8), along with an Instructional League (grades K-2). The 12-game regular season winds down with an All-Star game, playoffs and a banquet.
The league is a volunteer run league and is built on the philosophy that everyone plays. At designated points during the game there is mandatory substitutions that are logged to ensure that the playing time is distributed equally among all the girls. A draft takes place at the beginning of the season in the hopes of creating balanced teams that lead to a fun and enjoyable season in which we learn about basketball, sportsmanship, teamwork and other skills in a Catholic environment.
The league supports a 7th & 8th grade team and a 5th & 6th grade team. The teams are coming off their second season of play in the Lynn Vicariate. Last season, the 7th/8th grade team advanced to the semi-finals of the Archdiocese of Boston Tournament. In addition, the teams may participate in other tournaments including the annual Medford Catholic Tournament. The travel teams play their home games at the Gene Mack Gymnasium on Forest Street.
